Day 7: The week of the Mexican Garter Snake
Subspecies nr.7: Thamnophis eques ssp., Lake Zirahuen Mexican Garter Snake.
My breeding group consist of wildcaught specimens originating from lake Zirahuen (Michoácan) in Mexico where they occur at an altitude of approximately 2120 meters.
It is still unclear whether this is really a new subspecies, or if they belong to Thamnophis eques patzcuaroensis from the nearby lake of Patzcuaro. Based on the description of T.e.patzcuaroensis by Conant (2003) I am inclined to believe it is a new not yet described subspecies.
Further description will be done on this website.
The last 7 pictures are the CB specimens, the others are of the adult parents.
