Day 5: The week of the Mexican Garter Snake

Subspecies nr.5: Thamnophis eques insperatus, The Lake Zacapu Garter Snake.

My breeding group consist of captive bred specimens originating from Lake Zacapu (Michoácan) in Mexico where they occur at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters.

Thamnophis eques insperatus

They occur in Lake Zacapu (a large natural spring) and its adjacent canals. When they grow older they tend to get darker, but they always keep the yellow chin and labial scales.
