Day 2: The week of the Mexican Garter Snake
The second subspecies I want to show you is Thamnophis eques cuitzeoensis, The Lake Cuitzeo Garter Snake.
My breeding group consist of wildcaught and captive bred specimens originating from lake Cuitzeo (Michoacán) in Mexico where they occur at an altitude of approximately 1850 meters.
This subspecies is confined to the huge Lake Cuitzeo and they are all deep black.
On the pictures you can see semiadults born July 2014 at an age of 20 months. This subspecies is almost entirely black as an adult, except the chin and labial scales, which can be yellow or white…The underside of the tail is also white.
